BarkN Good is a proudly Canadian owned and operated pet treat company. We are based out of Vancouver, BC and make it a point to support local and source our ingredients from local Canadian suppliers. We have a simple philosophy, quality ingredients, make quality treats. We believe in less filler / supplements so you know when you're getting your treats here, they are of the highest quality.
Why we cook our meat treats
From researching raw vs cooked and conversations with veterinarians and pet nutritionists, we have come to the conclusion that cooking our meat treats is the best option for our pets. Not only does it greatly reduce the chance of any bacteria or germs forming but it also eases digestion. Our pets are not the same wild animals their ancestors were 100s and 1000s of years ago. Their digestive systems don't have the same bacteria their ancestors did that would break down the harmful bacteria found raw meat.

What's the difference between Freeze Drying and Dehydrating?

Preservation
Most dehydration processes remove about 70% of the water. In this situation, the food is only good for a few months. However the freeze drying process removes 99% of the water. Most dehydrated food like, dried fruit, meat, and vegetables have a shelf life of 1 year or less. Those same foods preserved with a freeze dryer have a 15 to 25 year shelf life.

Nutrition
Freeze-dried foods retain the vast majority of the vitamins and minerals found in their original state. Freeze-dried food retains its nutrition because of the “cold, vacuum” process that is used to extract the water. Whereas, the nutritional value of dehydrated food is generally around 60% of equivalent fresh food. This loss is largely due to the heat used during dehydration which breaks down the food’s vitamins and minerals
